Contents page research

This contents page of  Classic rock magazine features the Rolling stones. the rolling stones are kept to one side and are clear from the contents writing on the right. this as a result helps the raider see what is in the magazine more clearly than if the picture was behind the text. Furthermore each page had a heading in bold with its explanation underneath to attract the audience to read what it is. Continually there are stickers and labels which indicate winning things and exclusive content , which as a result entices the reader to find out what these stickers are on about.

This contents page of kerrang is atypical of that of other contents pages. Typically contents pages will have the model or picture one side, where as on the other will contain the contents. However due to the fact that kerrang is popular among teenagers it can afford to be different and unique compared to other music magazines. they have used a consistent colour scheme to emphasis the professionalism of the magazine as well as the fact that it represents the rock genre,

Metal hammer which is a more metal magazine maintains the representation of the metal genre. it uses dark solid colours and explicit photos to help perpetuate the metal genre. They have also stuck with the conventional content page look of the picture and text separated to each side. Furthermore it has advertised a free CD which brings in the reader to find out and read more about the magazine. Each heading of the contents are in bold to also bring in the reader to find out more about it.

Double page spread research

This magazine has used a contrast of light and dark, a feature typical in rock magazines and a feature that represents the rock genre. As rock magazines are regularly read by teenagers the double page spread has included features that help reach out to them. feature like the use of a large image with text tidy to the left, a feature that helps teenager use the double page as a poster perhaps. Plenty of picture of the featured band are used so that the reader is not bombarded with reading. Further more the text box in front of James Hetfield brings a different unique feature to the double page spread and invites the reader to read on. Light is shone upon james so that i is clear he is the main singer of the band aswell as the fact that he is the bigger picture compared to Lars Ulrich who is in a small picture at the bottom.

In this issue of kerrang they have used a feature typical of double page spreads, having the main picture to one side and taking up half of the other page with text on the other side. Again there is a contrast of light and dark in the magazine representing the rock genre. The text used is not too much and appeals to the audience with the odd piece of text of the picture to help keep the audience interested. The position of the band member make them look spaced out and not squashed together, this as a result helps retain some prestige of the magazine.

Once again, in this Double page spread has used a typical style of rock magazines, with he contrasts of light and dark. This double page however has a text and picture which take up equal side of the double page spread and doesn't lap into one another. this magazine however emphasises on text rather than pictures showing that its audience is more of the middle aged rock audience and not teenagers. The focus of the man rather than the surroundings emphasises the dark serene look of the magazine.
